Fans sat around on Friday expecting the big news to become official. However, they, along with the media on hand at Toyota Sports Center, were left disappointed as Anze Kopitar left the Kings’ practice facility without signing a new contract. The star’s agent, Pat Brisson, according to Lisa Dillman of the Los Angeles Times, there remained “details to work on”.

Most are optimistic that the deal will be signed shortly, but in the words of Tom Petty, the waiting is the hardest part.

While this certainly hasn’t distracted Kopitar or the Kings thus far, the club knows they must stay the course this weekend as they prepare for back-to-back games, beginning on Saturday afternoon when they play host to the Ottawa Senators. As for the inking of the new contract, we’ll just have to put that on the back-burner for now.
