Los Angeles Kings 2015-16 Regular Season:
Game 77 vs. Calgary, March 31, 2016, 7:30pm PST

The Los Angeles Kings enter Thursday night’s matchup without a first-place lead in the Pacific. They can, however, regain that lead with a win over the 32-39-6 Calgary Flames at home. This will be the third of four meetings between the division rivals this season.

The Kings took each of the first two meetings from the Flames this season with the latter coming on New Year’s Eve when Milan Lucic netted the winner en route to a 4-1 win. Jonathan Quick stopped 23 shots en route to the victory.

For the Flames, they will look to bounce back from their worst offensive showing of the season. Just up the road in Anaheim, the Flames were shelled by an 8-3 count on Wednesday by the now-Pacific-leading Ducks. Jonas Hiller started in the Calgary goal on Wednesday but was pulled after allowing three goals on five shots. Niklas Backstrom fared little better, allowing five goals on 22 shots. It is a guess as to which netminder will get the nod in Los Angeles on Thursday.

For the Kings, they have two of their last three games and hope to jump back into first in the Pacific. Both Marian Gaborik and Kris Versteeg, who have been sidelined, skated on Wednesday but neither is close to returning. Expect Versteeg to be back in action before Gaborik, though.

Despite their different places in the standings, there is usually some excitement brewing when the Kings and Flames get together. Let’s see if Thursday is another indication of that.

Enjoy the game!
